Dirty Birdies

Don’t you just hate spammers? Someone is using my domain as a “return address”. NORMALLY, most “anti-spam” tools will ignore FORGED addresses, but instead pay attention to the IP ADDRESS.

But I’m getting oodles of complaints about this spam, from people who are DAMNED DAMNED SURE that I’m sending them spam. It’s not their fault they are idiots..

Here’s a header lesson for you idiots!

When you see a header like this in a spam you receive

Received: from [210.117.168.93] by AmBell
(ArGoSoft Mail Server, Version 1.8 (1.8.3.6)); Sat, 5 Jul 2003 04:29:35 -0500

It’s the 210.177.168.93 part you want to pay attention to. NOT the From address. The FROM ADDRESS is ALWAYS WRONG! It’s ALWAYS FORGED.

Next lesson:

Return-Path:
Received: from world.std.com (root@world-f.std.com [199.172.62.5])
by TheWorld.com (8.12.8p1/8.12.8) with ESMTP id h65G56aS027537;

See that part in BOLD? That’s the part where you get to find out if luftmensch.com REALLY sent you spam. Check the IP (which is NOT forged) and see who owns that.

Send your vitriol to THEM, NOT ME!

I get over 400 SPAMS per DAY… I don’t need you to forward me YOURS when you can’t even take the care to check the headers or ask someone with some clue before you start sending me emails threatening to do something to me.

See, ya gotta be careful, cause when you hit the wrong target, sometimes you can pull back a stump.

  1. Ah, I already made a comment above before reading this…the URL the spam advertises should help to make a complaint though like in my case the fax number drew the disguise from the a**hole.

    The complaints are not even the problem – the bounces are bad enough already and some of the blacklists are at least as thumb as people that complaint at you as they should know to take IPs and still take the forged domains…I found out about the problem when my own mails bouced everywhere…

  2. No. That’d be too easy to do a WHOIS and look up the IP address. No, they’d rather run their mouths and bitch and piss and moan even though they are wrong!

    People like this should be taken to the nearest onion field and be shot to death. As well as the spammers.
